Leslie Thornton and Tom Zummer were Artists-In-Residence at the haudenschildGarage from July 1 - 7, 2007.
Leslie Thornton
On July 5, 2007 the haudenschildGarage held a fuel4talk with Leslie Thornton. Steve Fagin was the moderator and following Thornton's talk her film Adynata was screened.
Adynata (1983, 30 minutes) takes a formal 1861 portrait of a Chinese Mandarin and his wife as the starting point for this allegorical investigation of the fantasies spawned in the West about the East, particularly that which associates femininity with the mysterious Orient. Adynata presents a series of oppositions - male and female images, past and present sounds - which in and of themselves construct a minimal and fragmentary narrative, an open text of our imaginations, fears and fantasies.
Tom Zummer
Zummer was invited to the Garage to collaborate on producing a series of drawings that would represent the haudenschildGarage, Spare Parts projects in a series for Cabinet magazine, published in Fall 2007 and Winter 2007/8.
